SA 1, Times Like These.

In the day and age we hear so much of the horrible things that humans can do to each other. Whether its murder, shoplifting, vandalism or any number of illegal acts it’s almost all we hear about in the news. But not everyone is like that, in “Times like these” people are learning to be better people again and that you’ve got a second chance. In “Times Like These”, The Foo Fighters use powerful similes, meaningful imagery, and a hopeful tone in order to convey that everybody has a second chance.

The Foo Fighters use powerful similes to bring to life the idea that everybody can start again and have a second chance. “It’s time like these you learn to live again” this is conveying the idea that everybody can have a second chance because it is stating their beliefs that that you can learn to live again after anything. “It’s time like these you learn to love again” is another line that is an example of how they use powerful similes to compare learning to love again and the modern world and all the things that humans can do. “It’s time like these you give and give again” is also an example of powerful simile because it is comparing giving back again and again to the world we live in again. The Foo Fighters also use meaningful imagery to convey that everybody has a second chance.

The Foo Fighters use meaningful imagery to describe how everybody has got a second chance. “I am a new day rising” is an example of meaningful imagery being used to portray the idea of everybody having a second chance because it’s talking about how the person is a “new day rising” meaning that they are beginning a new. “I am a street light shinning” represents the idea of everybody having the right to a second chance because they are talking how about how in the midst of everything he is a “street light shinning” amid everything. “I’m a brand new sky/ to hang the stars upon tonight” is describing how the person is like a dry erase board, it was drawn on and used but is now wiped clean waiting to “hang the stars upon”. The Foo Fighters also use a hopeful tone to portray the idea of a second chance or new start.

The Foo Fighters use a hopeful tone to further impress the idea of a second chance on the listener. “I’m the one that drives away/ then follows you back home” is representative of a hopeful tone because it’s saying how the speaker is leaving but then decides to come back for a second chance. “I am a new day rising/ I’m a new sky rising” This exemplifies a hopeful tone and the idea of a new start because the singer is talking about how he is beginning a new. “I’m a wild light blinding bright” is also a quote portraying a hopeful tone because of the way the singer says he is a “light blinding bright” like he is a beacon shinning through the fog.

“Times Like These” is a song about new beginnings. No matter what has happened to you can turn around start anew. You can be like a new sky waiting for the stars to come or a blindingly bright beacon shining through the fog.
